Tools You Need

  • A soft measuring tape (the kind used by tailors or seamstresses).
  • A mirror (optional, to help check your positioning and alignment).

How to Measure Your Bust Size

  1. Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your bust.
  2. Ensure the tape is snug but not tight, avoiding any pinching or digging into your skin.
  3. Keep the tape parallel to the floor and ensure it is straight across your back. Angling the tape can lead to incorrect measurements.
  4. Take a normal breath and exhale gently—do not suck in your stomach or hold your breath.
  5. Record the measurement at the point where the tape meets. This is your full bust measurement.

How to Measure Your Waist Size

  1. Stand up straight and relax.
  2. Find your natural waistline, which is the narrowest part of your torso, typically located just above your belly button and below your rib cage.
  3. To locate your waist, bend slightly to one side—the area where your body naturally creases is your waist.
  4. Wrap the measuring tape around your waist at this narrowest point.
  5. The tape should lie flat against your skin but should not be too tight. You should be able to comfortably slide one finger between the tape and your skin.
  6. Ensure the tape is parallel to the floor and that it goes all the way around your waist evenly. It should not be twisted or sagging.
  7. Read the measurement in the mirror, and record the number at the point where the tape meets. This is your waist measurement.

How to Measure Your Hip Size

  1. Stand in front of a mirror with your feet close together and your weight evenly distributed. Keep your posture natural and relaxed.
  2. Find the fullest part of your hips and buttocks, which is usually around the widest part of your hips, approximately 7-9 inches (18-23 cm) below your natural waistline.
  3. Wrap the measuring tape around your hips at the widest point.
  4. Make sure the tape is parallel to the floor and snug but not tight.
  5. While keeping the tape snug, ensure it remains level all the way around. Take the measurement in inches (or centimetres, depending on the measuring system you're using). The tape should not sag or twist.
  6. Read the measurement in the mirror and record it for reference.
  • Do not hold your breath or suck in your stomach—let your body naturally relax.
  • If measuring for clothing, take this measurement while wearing the type of undergarments you'd typically wear with the outfit (such as tights or underwear).
  • Measure twice to ensure accuracy.
  • Do not suck in your stomach—stand naturally and breathe normally while measuring.
  • Measure at the same time of day, ideally in the morning before eating, as your waist may fluctuate slightly throughout the day.
  • Wear minimal or light clothing for the most accurate measurement.
